Recently we introduced a new pedal concept: The Private Reserve. These very limited pedals are both a look back and a look forward for Spiral. The simple description is that I want to be able to use some of the rare and cool parts I’ve collected over the years to make new, unique pedals.
These two Private Reserve OpAmp Drives are based on the Yellow Spiral Overdrive. The main differences are instead of using the stock LM741 they use a tin-can LF351 OpAmp. This results in a little different response and a "tougher" tonality. The LF351 is my favored OpAmp in a DOD 250 inspired circuit, and it rules here in the Private Reserve version.
Asymmetry is the name of the game when it comes to the diodes on the Texture Toggle. Position 1 is asymmetric LED's, one low vF red and one even lower vF infrared. Position 2 is a pair of 1N4148's, and position 3 is a single 1N116 Germanium diode for some asymmetrical GermaniYUM.
We will have one version with a Girth Control, and one version with a Shave control available. Both are a capacitor network instead of a traditional tone-sucking tone control. Pairing with an already hot amp channel? Then the Girth is your best friend. Pairing with a bright clean channel? Then the Shave is your huckleberry.
For 250 connoisseurs, the Private Reserve is the best I can create with this circuit. Perfect for players that want an exceptional drive that makes your guitar and amp sound like your guitar and amp but better, this drive is for you!
We are giving Private Reserve pedals the royal treatment with custom cut walnut boxes, leather inserts, signed certificates, handmade incense Shards, and much more.
